Kuki bodies demand justice

IMPHAL, Jan 15: The All Kuki Inpis and the Kuki Movement for Human Rights have demanded that justice should be done with regard to the massacre of Kuki people by NSCN-IM in the early 1990’s before any amicable settlement is made between the Government of India and NSCN (IM).

In a joint memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister of India, the Kuki Inpi and the Kuki Movement for Human Rights reiterated that the NSCN-IM murdered 900 innocent Kukis and uprooted 360 villages besides displacing more than 100,000 Kukis.

Memoranda after memoranda have been submitted to successive Indian Prime Ministers including PV Na-rasimha Rao, HD Gowda, Atal Behari Vajyapee and Manmohan Singh to do justice with regard to the mas- sacre of innocent Kukis by NSCN- IM and their agents.

With the Government of India never doing enough to stop the massacre which started soon after the United Naga Council of Manipur, the alleged civil wing of NSCN-IM, served quit notice on October 22, 1992, the killing of people, destruction of villages and displacement of civilians only increased.

Instead of addressing the damages done by NSCN-IM, the Government of India keeps talking with the NSCN-IM which it declared as a terrorist organisation in a book entitled “Does Violence get a Mandate” (Page 33, printed and published by the Government of India).

The Government of India has been completely ignoring the victimised Kuki people by not responding to the series of memoranda and denying personnel interviews with Indian Prime Ministers at Delhi.

Moreover, filing PIL at the Supreme Court on the issue has not been admitted.

Holding dialogue and issuing Indian passports to the NSCN-IM leaders would have serious implications if the Kuki people’s demands are not settled first according to the    prevailing law to the satisfaction of all concerned.

If the same demand is not fulfilled before coming to any settlement with NSCN-IM, it would be only logical to let the blame fall upon the Government, it added.
